But I see a different law in my members waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that is in my members.

For those who live according to the flesh have their outlook shaped by ¹  the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit have their outlook shaped by the things of the Spirit.

So then, ¹  God ²  has mercy on whom he chooses to have mercy, and he hardens whom he chooses to harden. ³ 

For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel – and not with clever speech, so that the cross of Christ would not become useless. ¹ 

I say this to your shame! Is there no one among you wise enough to settle disputes between fellow Christians? ¹ 

These things happened to them as examples and were written for our instruction, on whom the ends of the ages have come.

“Everything is lawful,” but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is lawful,” ¹  but not everything builds others up. ² 

I do not mean yours but the other person’s. For why is my freedom being judged by another’s conscience?

For every time you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

who made us adequate ¹  to be servants of a new covenant ²  not based on the letter but on the Spirit, for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

And they did this not just as we had hoped, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and to us by the will of God.

so that we may preach the gospel in the regions that lie beyond you, and not boast of work already done in another person’s area.

Let each one examine ¹  his own work. Then he can take pride ²  in himself and not compare himself with ³  someone else.

Now to him who by the power that is working within us ¹  is able to do far beyond ²  all that we ask or think,

And you were at one time strangers and enemies in your ¹  minds ²  as expressed through ³  your evil deeds,

And whatever you do in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Every scripture ¹  is inspired by God ²  and useful for teaching, for reproof, ³  for correction, and for training in righteousness,

not pilfering, but showing all good faith, ¹  in order to bring credit to ²  the teaching of God our Savior in everything.

And so, ¹  since we have been justified by his grace, we become heirs with the confident expectation of eternal life.” ² 

Now all discipline seems painful at the time, not joyful. ¹  But later it produces the fruit of peace and righteousness ²  for those trained by it.
