Can spoils be taken from a warrior, or captives be rescued from a conqueror? ¹ 

Indeed,” says the Lord, “captives will be taken from a warrior; spoils will be rescued from a conqueror. I will oppose your adversary and I will rescue your children.

When the wicked increase, ¹  transgression increases, but the righteous will see ²  their downfall.

Or ‘Deliver me ¹  from the enemy’s power, ²  and from the hand of tyrants ³  ransom ⁴  me’?

For tyrants will disappear, those who taunt will vanish, and all those who love to do wrong will be eliminated ¹  –

¹ I will punish the world for its evil, ²  and wicked people for their sin. I will put an end to the pride of the insolent, I will bring down the arrogance of tyrants. ³ 

But the horde of invaders will be like fine dust, the horde of tyrants ¹  like chaff that is blown away. It will happen suddenly, in a flash.

The Lord has broken the club of the wicked, the scepter of rulers.

But Jesus called them and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those in high positions use their authority over them.

All his days ¹  the wicked man suffers torment, ²  throughout the number of the years that ³  are stored up for the tyrant. ⁴ 

For you say, ‘Where now is the nobleman’s house, ¹  and where are the tents in which the wicked lived?’ ² 

This is the portion of the wicked man allotted by God, ¹  the inheritance that evildoers receive from the Almighty.

He will defend ¹  the oppressed among the people; he will deliver ²  the children ³  of the poor and crush the oppressor.

We have had our fill ¹  of the taunts of the self-assured, of the contempt of the proud.

“I will deliver you from the power of the wicked. I will free you from the clutches of violent people.”

He has brought down the mighty ¹  from their thrones, and has lifted up those of lowly position; ² 

Jesus called them and said to them, “You know that those who are recognized as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those in high positions use their authority over them.
