The serpent said to the woman, “Surely you will not die, ¹ 

The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat ¹  of the fruit from the trees of the orchard;

Their wine is snakes’ poison, the deadly venom of cobras.

So Moses made a bronze snake and put it on a pole, so that if a snake had bitten someone, when he looked at the bronze snake he lived. ¹ 

Afterward ¹  it bites like a snake, and stings like a viper.

By his breath ¹  the skies became fair; his hand pierced the fleeing serpent. ² 

At that time ¹  the Lord will punish with his destructive, ²  great, and powerful sword Leviathan the fast-moving ³  serpent, Leviathan the squirming serpent; he will kill the sea monster. ⁴ 

You will subdue ¹  a lion and a snake; ²  you will trample underfoot a young lion and a serpent.

Don’t be so happy, all you Philistines, just because the club that beat you has been broken! ¹  For a viper will grow out of the serpent’s root, and its fruit will be a darting adder. ² 

Their tongues wound like a serpent; ¹  a viper’s ²  venom is behind ³  their lips. (Selah)

If the snake should bite before it is charmed, ¹  the snake charmer ²  is in trouble. ³ 

Their venom is like that of a snake, ¹  like a deaf serpent ²  that does not hear, ³ 

So the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this ¹  you have done?” And the woman replied, “The serpent ²  tricked ³  me, and I ate.”

But I am afraid that ¹  just as the serpent ²  deceived Eve by his treachery, ³  your minds may be led astray ⁴  from a sincere and pure ⁵  devotion to Christ.

So the Lord sent poisonous ¹  snakes ²  among the people, and they bit the people; many people of Israel died.

And let us not put Christ ¹  to the test, as some of them did, and were destroyed by snakes. ² 

Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? ¹ 

Then ¹  the serpent spouted water like a river out of his mouth after the woman in an attempt to ²  sweep her away by a flood,

He ¹  seized the dragon – the ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan – and tied him up for a thousand years.

Just as ¹  Moses lifted up the serpent ²  in the wilderness, ³  so must the Son of Man be lifted up, ⁴
