Then Nebuchadnezzar ¹  promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the province of Babylon.

Some time later ¹  King Ahasuerus promoted ²  Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, exalting him and setting his position ³  above that of all the officials who were with him.

Haman then recounted to them his fabulous wealth, ¹  his many sons, ²  and how the king had magnified him and exalted him over the king’s other officials and servants.

nor to occupy themselves with myths and interminable genealogies. ¹  Such things promote useless speculations rather than God’s redemptive plan ²  that operates by faith.

They destroy ¹  my path; they succeed in destroying me ²  without anyone assisting ³  them.

Esteem her highly ¹  and she will exalt you; she will honor you if you embrace her.

For victory does not come from the east or west, or from the wilderness. ¹ 

Look, a king will promote fairness; ¹  officials will promote justice. ² 

I am saying this for your benefit, not to place a limitation on you, but so that without distraction you may give notable and constant service to the Lord.

Deceit is in the heart of those who plot evil, ¹  but those who promote peace ²  have joy.

Then the king elevated Daniel to high position and bestowed on him many marvelous gifts. He granted him authority over the entire province of Babylon and made him the main prefect over all the wise men of Babylon.

Now all the actions carried out under his authority and his great achievements, along with an exact statement concerning the greatness of Mordecai, whom the king promoted, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Media and Persia?

Even though they have the appearance of wisdom ¹  with their self-imposed worship and false humility ²  achieved by an ³  unsparing treatment of the body – a wisdom with no true value – they in reality result in fleshly indulgence. ⁴ 

for the wicked seem to be everywhere, ¹  when people promote evil. ² 

The godly speak wise words and promote justice. ¹ 

The wise inherit honor, but he holds fools up ¹  to public contempt. ² 

They are frightening and terrifying; they decide for themselves what is right. ¹ 

But as for you, communicate the behavior that goes with ¹  sound teaching.

For human ¹  anger does not accomplish God’s righteousness. ² 

For I will honor you greatly, ¹  and whatever you tell me I will do. So come, put a curse on this nation for me.’”
