Like vinegar to the teeth and like smoke to the eyes, ¹  so is the sluggard to those ²  who send him.

“Remember ¹  the Sabbath ²  day to set it apart as holy. ³ 

They will designate men to scout continually ¹  through the land, burying those who remain on the surface of the ground, ²  in order to cleanse it. They will search for seven full months.

Don’t you know that those who serve in the temple ¹  eat food from the temple, and those who serve at the altar receive a part of the offerings?

Like the cold of snow in the time of harvest, ¹  so is a faithful messenger to those who send him, for he refreshes the heart ²  of his masters.

There is only cursing, lying, murder, stealing, and adultery. They resort to violence and bloodshed. ¹ 

So ¹  he called the manager ²  in and said to him, ‘What is this I hear about you? ³  Turn in the account of your administration, ⁴  because you can no longer be my manager.’

So ¹  he contacted ²  his master’s debtors one by one. He asked the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’

I tell you the solemn truth, ¹  the slave ²  is not greater than his master, nor is the one who is sent as a messenger ³  greater than the one who sent him.
