But we ought to thank God always for you, brothers and sisters ¹  loved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning ²  for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth.

If ¹  you believed Moses, you would believe me, because he wrote about me.

But if you do not believe what Moses ¹  wrote, how will you believe my words?”

(For the Sadducees say there is no resurrection, or angel, or spirit, but the Pharisees acknowledge them all.) ¹ 

Everyone who denies the Son does not have the Father either. The person who confesses the Son has the Father also. ¹ 

They rejected the fruitful land; ¹  they did not believe his promise. ² 

“‘But just look at you! ¹  You are putting your confidence in a false belief ²  that will not deliver you. ³ 

They went back and told the rest, but they did not believe them.

The ¹  apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!” ² 

But these words seemed like pure nonsense ¹  to them, and they did not believe them.

(For not even his own brothers believed in him.) ¹ 

None of the rulers ¹  or the Pharisees have believed in him, have they? ² 

But because I am telling you ¹  the truth, you do not believe me.

For this reason they could not believe, ¹  because again Isaiah said,

for we live ¹  by faith, not by sight.

This persuasion ¹  does not come from the one who calls you!

And they will turn away from hearing the truth, but on the other hand they will turn aside to myths. ¹ 

If I have told you people ¹  about earthly things and you don’t believe, how will you believe if I tell you about heavenly things? ² 

Granted! ¹  They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but fear!

You believe that God is one; well and good. ¹  Even the demons believe that – and tremble with fear. ²
