The mountains melt like wax before the Lord, before the Lord of the whole earth.

My strength drains away like water; ¹  all my bones are dislocated; my heart ²  is like wax; it melts away inside me.

As smoke is driven away by the wind, so you drive them away. ¹  As wax melts before fire, so the wicked are destroyed before God.

The mountains will disintegrate ¹  beneath him, and the valleys will be split in two. ²  The mountains will melt ³  like wax in a fire, the rocks will slide down like water cascading down a steep slope. ⁴ 

“‘If a resident foreigner who is with you prospers ¹  and your brother becomes impoverished with regard to him so that ²  he sells himself to a resident foreigner who is with you or to a member ³  of a foreigner’s family,

When they are scorched, ¹  they dry up, when it is hot, they vanish ²  from their place.

He conceals ¹  the face of the full moon, ²  shrouding it with his clouds.

that does not respond to ¹  the magicians, or to a skilled snake-charmer.

and because lawlessness will increase so much, the love of many will grow cold.

They will perish, but you continue. And they will all grow old like a garment,

Look, the sovereign Lord helps me. Who dares to condemn me? Look, all of them will wear out like clothes; a moth will eat away at them.

Although its roots may grow old ¹  in the ground and its stump begins to die ²  in the soil, ³ 

Nations are in uproar, kingdoms are overthrown. ¹  God ²  gives a shout, ³  the earth dissolves. ⁴ 

But evil people and charlatans will go from bad to worse, ¹  deceiving others and being deceived themselves. ² 

and my anger will burn and I will kill you with the sword, and your wives will be widows and your children will be fatherless. ¹ 

So now, leave me alone ¹  so that my anger can burn against them and I can destroy them, and I will make from you a great nation.”

Aaron said, “Do not let your anger burn hot, my lord; ¹  you know these people, that they tend to evil. ² 

Eli’s eyes had begun to fail, so that he was unable to see well. At that time he was lying down in his place,

They will perish, but you will endure. ¹  They will wear out like a garment; like clothes you will remove them and they will disappear. ² 

“At that time ¹  Jacob’s splendor will be greatly diminished, ²  and he will become skin and bones. ³
