Indeed, she lies in wait like a robber, ¹  and increases the unfaithful ²  among men. ³ 

He waits in ambush near the villages; ¹  in hidden places he kills the innocent. His eyes look for some unfortunate victim. ² 

Your creditors will suddenly attack; ¹  those who terrify you will spring into action, ²  and they will rob you. ³ 

for she has brought down ¹  many fatally wounded, and all those she has slain are many. ² 

Your hands ¹  were not bound, and your feet were not put into irons. You fell the way one falls before criminals.” All the people ²  wept over him again.

You have taken notice, ¹  for ²  you always see ³  one who inflicts pain and suffering. ⁴  The unfortunate victim entrusts his cause to you; ⁵  you deliver ⁶  the fatherless. ⁷ 

then the community must judge between the slayer and the avenger of blood according to these decisions.

For now ¹  you have become like these streams that are no help; ²  you see a terror, ³  and are afraid.

I broke the fangs ¹  of the wicked, and made him drop ²  his prey from his teeth.

He becomes the victim of his own destructive plans ¹  and the violence he intended for others falls on his own head. ² 

His victims are crushed and beaten down; they are trapped in his sturdy nets. ¹ 

Like a fluttering bird or like a flying swallow, so a curse without cause ¹  does not come to rest. ² 

The words of a gossip are like delicious morsels; they go down into a person’s innermost being. ¹ 

For there is a proper time and procedure for every matter, for the oppression ¹  of the king ²  is severe upon his victim. ³ 

When they stumble, they will be granted some help. But many will unite with them deceitfully.

Woe to the city guilty of bloodshed! ¹  She is full of lies; ²  she is filled with plunder; ³  she has hoarded her spoil! ⁴ 

If a ransom is set for him, ¹  then he must pay the redemption for his life according to whatever amount was set for him.

He must lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it will be accepted for him to make atonement ¹  on his behalf.

The avenger ¹  of blood himself must kill the murderer; when he meets him, he must kill him.

When the avenger of blood comes after him, they must not hand over to him the one who committed manslaughter, for he accidentally killed his fellow man without premeditation. ¹
