But we know that the law is good if someone uses it legitimately,

A poor person makes supplications, ¹  but a rich man answers harshly. ² 

“‘Observe – everyone who quotes proverbs will quote this proverb about you: “Like mother, like daughter.”

Doesn’t my master drink from this cup ¹  and use it for divination? ²  You have done wrong!’” ³ 

The truly wise person ¹  restrains ²  his words, and the one who stays calm ³  is discerning.

“‘Sure to be judged ¹  is the king who builds his palace using injustice and treats people unfairly while adding its upper rooms. ²  He makes his countrymen work for him for nothing. He does not pay them for their labor.

The one who touches them must use an iron instrument or the wooden shaft of a spear. They are completely burned up right where they lie!” ¹ 

He gave him ¹  the prescribed weight for all the gold items to be used in various types of service in the Lord’s temple, for all the silver items to be used in various types of service, ² 

Naphtali is a free running doe, ¹  he speaks delightful words. ² 

The tongue of the wise ¹  treats knowledge correctly, ²  but the mouth of the fool spouts out ³  folly.

Although Ephraim has built many altars for sin offerings, these have become altars for sinning!

The businessmen love to cheat; ¹  they use dishonest scales. ² 

There must never be found among you anyone who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, ¹  anyone who practices divination, ²  an omen reader, ³  a soothsayer, ⁴  a sorcerer, ⁵ 

for gold and silver items, and for all the work of the craftsmen. Who else wants to contribute to the Lord today?”

One must not take either lower or upper millstones as security on a loan, for that is like taking a life itself as security. ¹ 

He decorates it with overlays of silver and gold. He uses hammer and nails to fasten it ¹  together so that it will not fall over.

“‘See how each of the princes of Israel living within you has used his authority to shed blood. ¹ 

Neither should there be vulgar speech, foolish talk, or coarse jesting – all of which are out of character – but rather thanksgiving.

A man uses it to make a fire; ¹  he takes some of it and warms himself. Yes, he kindles a fire and bakes bread. Then he makes a god and worships it; he makes an idol and bows down to it. ² 

I will bless those who bless you, ¹  but the one who treats you lightly ²  I must curse, and all the families of the earth will bless one another ³  by your name.”
