My people will live in peaceful settlements, in secure homes, and in safe, quiet places. ¹ 

When a strong man, ¹  fully armed, guards his own palace, ²  his possessions are safe. ³ 

The king ¹  said, “Leave it alone! No one must touch his bones.” So they left his bones undisturbed, as well as the bones of the Israelite prophet buried beside him. ² 

There ¹  the prisoners ²  relax ³  together; ⁴  they do not hear the voice of the oppressor. ⁵ 

A tranquil spirit ¹  revives the body, ²  but envy ³  is rottenness to the bones. ⁴ 

All your children will be followers of the Lord, and your children will enjoy great prosperity. ¹ 

Once again you will plant vineyards on the hills of Samaria. ¹  Those who plant them will once again enjoy their fruit. ²

He removed the high places and the incense altars from all the cities of Judah. The kingdom had rest under his rule. ¹

But ¹  the tents of robbers are peaceful, and those who provoke God are confident ²  – who carry their god in their hands. ³ 

And what you learned and received and heard and saw in me, do these things. And the God of peace will be with you.

even for kings ¹  and all who are in authority, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.

May all your enemies perish like this, O Lord! But may those who love you shine like the rising sun at its brightest!” ¹  And the land had rest for forty years.

The Israelites humiliated Midian; the Midianites’ fighting spirit was broken. ¹  The land had rest for forty years during Gideon’s time. ²
