I have a baptism ¹  to undergo, ²  and how distressed I am until it is finished!

Therefore he also says in another psalm, ¹  ‘You will not permit your Holy One ²  to experience ³  decay.’ ⁴ 

You must circumcise the flesh of your foreskins. This will be a reminder ¹  of the covenant between me and you.

But the things God foretold ¹  long ago through ²  all the prophets – that his Christ ³  would suffer – he has fulfilled in this way.

For those who are circumcised do not obey the law themselves, but they want you to be circumcised so that they can boast about your flesh. ¹ 

so that he might continue to live ¹  forever and not experience death. ² 

It is good for a man ¹  to bear ²  the yoke ³  while he is young. ⁴ 

But first he must ¹  suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.

but the one ¹  whom God raised up did not experience ²  decay.

Fool! What you sow will not come to life unless it dies.

Have you suffered so many things for nothing? – if indeed it was for nothing.

This saying ¹  is trustworthy: ²  If we died with him, we will also live with him.

My brothers and sisters, ¹  consider it nothing but joy ²  when you fall into all sorts of trials,

Then ¹  Jesus ²  began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer ³  many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and experts in the law, ⁴  and be killed, and after three days rise again.

But Jesus said to them, “You don’t know what you are asking! Are you able to drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I experience?” ¹ 

They said to him, “We are able.” ¹  Then Jesus said to them, “You will drink the cup I drink, and you will be baptized with the baptism I experience,

saying, “The Son of Man must suffer ¹  many things and be rejected by the elders, ²  chief priests, and experts in the law, ³  and be killed, and on the third day be raised.” ⁴ 

But if we are afflicted, ¹  it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort that you experience in your patient endurance of the same sufferings that we also suffer.

When his son Isaac was eight days old, ¹  Abraham circumcised him just as God had commanded him to do. ² 

But if you do not agree to our terms ¹  by being circumcised, then we will take ²  our sister ³  and depart.”
