They speak sinful words. ¹  So let them be trapped by their own pride and by the curses and lies they speak!

The nations heard about him; he was trapped in their pit. They brought him with hooks to the land of Egypt. ¹ 

if ¹  you have been ensnared ²  by the words you have uttered, ³  and have been caught by the words you have spoken,

The righteousness of the upright will deliver them, ¹  but the faithless will be captured ²  by their own desires. ³ 

But these people are looted and plundered; all of them are trapped in pits ¹  and held captive ²  in prisons. They were carried away as loot with no one to rescue them; they were carried away as plunder, and no one says, “Bring that back!” ³ 

The evil person is ensnared ¹  by the transgression of his speech, ²  but the righteous person escapes out of trouble. ³ 

The nations – the surrounding regions – attacked him. They threw their net over him; he was caught in their pit.

Those who long to be rich, however, stumble into temptation and a trap and many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.

That is why snares surround you, and why sudden fear terrifies you,

Panic and pitfall ¹  have come upon us, devastation and destruction. ² 

At the same time the men who had taken the city came out to fight, and the men of Ai were trapped in the middle. ¹  The Israelites struck them down, leaving no survivors or refugees.

When Saul was told that David had come to Keilah, Saul said, “God has delivered ¹  him into my hand, for he has boxed himself into a corner by entering a city with two barred gates.” ² 

His victims are crushed and beaten down; they are trapped in his sturdy nets. ¹ 

The Lord deserves praise ¹  for he demonstrated his amazing faithfulness to me when I was besieged by enemies. ² 

He sent them an assuring word ¹  and healed them; he rescued them from the pits where they were trapped. ² 

In the transgression of an evil person there is a snare, ¹  but a righteous person can sing ²  and rejoice. ³ 

Jesus answered them, “I tell you the solemn truth, ¹  everyone who practices ²  sin is a slave ³  of sin.

Pharaoh will think ¹  regarding the Israelites, ‘They are wandering around confused ²  in the land – the desert has closed in on them.’ ³
