The women who were playing the music sang, “Saul has struck down his thousands, but David his tens of thousands!”

Then the officers who were over the thousands of the army, the commanders over thousands and the commanders over hundreds, approached Moses

Isn’t this David, of whom they sang as they danced, ¹  ‘Saul has struck down his thousands, but David his tens of thousands’?”

God has countless chariots; they number in the thousands. ¹  The Lord comes from Sinai in holy splendor. ² 

Our storehouses ¹  will be full, providing all kinds of food. ²  Our sheep will multiply by the thousands and fill ³  our pastures. ⁴ 

And when it came to rest he would say, “Return, O Lord, to the many thousands of Israel!” ¹ 

David consulted with his military officers, including those who led groups of a thousand and those who led groups of a hundred. ¹ 

This made Saul very angry. The statement displeased him and he thought, ¹  “They have attributed to David tens of thousands, but to me they have attributed only thousands. What does he lack, except the kingdom?”

The servants of Achish said to him, “Isn’t this David, the king of the land? Isn’t he the one that they sing about when they dance, saying, ‘Saul struck down his thousands, But David his tens of thousands’?”

David assembled the army that was with him. He appointed leaders of thousands and leaders of hundreds.

Then ¹  I looked and heard the voice of many angels in a circle around the throne, as well as the living creatures and the elders. Their ²  number was ten thousand times ten thousand ³  – thousands times thousands –

Now Enoch, the seventh in descent beginning with Adam, ¹  even prophesied of them, ²  saying, “Look! The Lord is coming ³  with thousands and thousands ⁴  of his holy ones,

I am not afraid ¹  of the multitude of people ²  who attack me from all directions. ³

Will the Lord accept a thousand rams, or ten thousand streams of olive oil? Should I give him my firstborn child as payment for my rebellion, my offspring – my own flesh and blood – for my sin? ¹ 

But Moses was furious with the officers of the army, the commanders over thousands and commanders over hundreds, who had come from service in the war.

So a thousand from every tribe, twelve thousand armed for battle in all, were provided out of the thousands of Israel.
