In all hard work ¹  there is profit, but merely talking about it ²  only brings ³  poverty. ⁴ 

Does he argue ¹  with useless ²  talk, with words that have no value in them?

for their hearts contemplate violence, and their lips speak harm. ¹ 

Neither should there be vulgar speech, foolish talk, or coarse jesting – all of which are out of character – but rather thanksgiving.

They will proclaim the splendor of your kingdom; they will tell about your power,

Remove perverse speech ¹  from your mouth; ²  keep devious talk far from your lips. ³ 

For the kingdom of God is demonstrated not in idle talk but with power.

At the beginning his words ¹  are foolish and at the end ²  his talk ³  is wicked madness, ⁴ 

“Should not this ¹  abundance of words be answered, ²  or should this ³  talkative man ⁴  be vindicated? ⁵ 

Slaves ¹  are to be subject to their own masters in everything, ²  to do what is wanted and not talk back,

So Job opens his mouth to no purpose; ¹  without knowledge he multiplies words.”

She persuaded him ¹  with persuasive words; ²  with her smooth talk ³  she compelled him. ⁴ 

Then the Pharisees ¹  went out and planned together to entrap him with his own words. ² 

Some have strayed from these and turned away to empty discussion.

But avoid profane chatter, ¹  because those occupied with it will stray further and further into ungodliness, ² 

and their message will spread its infection ¹  like gangrene. Hymenaeus and Philetus are in this group. ² 

When you walk about, ¹  they ²  will guide you; when you lie down, they will watch over you; when you wake up, ³  they will talk ⁴  to you.

and you must teach ¹  them to your children and speak of them as you sit in your house, as you walk along the road, ²  as you lie down, and as you get up.

How, sir, am I able to speak with you? ¹  My strength is gone, ²  and I am breathless.”

They encourage one another to carry out their evil deed. ¹  They plan how to hide ²  snares, and boast, ³  “Who will see them?” ⁴
