Those who survive him are buried by the plague, ¹  and their ²  widows do not mourn for them.

I said, “Sovereign Lord, stop! How can Jacob survive? ¹  He is too weak!” ² 

Wrath is cruel and anger is overwhelming, ¹  but who can stand before jealousy? ² 

Then the Lord will scatter you among the peoples and there will be very few of you ¹  among the nations where the Lord will drive you.

Their survivors will escape to the mountains and become like doves of the valleys; all of them will moan – each one for his iniquity.

Then he uttered this oracle: “O, who will survive when God does this! ¹ 

None of the Judean remnant who have come to live in the land of Egypt will escape or survive to return to the land of Judah. Though they long to return and live there, none of them shall return except a few fugitives.’” ¹ 

Therefore fathers will eat their sons within you, Jerusalem, ¹  and sons will eat their fathers. I will execute judgments on you, and I will scatter any survivors ²  to the winds. ³ 

When they had completely consumed the earth’s vegetation, I said, “Sovereign Lord, forgive Israel! ¹  How can Jacob survive? ²  He is too weak!” ³ 

Then all who survive from all the nations that came to attack Jerusalem will go up annually to worship the King, the Lord who rules over all, and to observe the Feast of Tabernacles. ¹ 

Then ¹  I, the Lord, promise that ²  I will hand over King Zedekiah of Judah, his officials, and any of the people who survive the war, starvation, and disease. I will hand them over to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon and to their enemies who want to kill them. He will slaughter them with the sword. He will not show them any mercy, compassion, or pity.’

There were those who said, “With our sons and daughters, we are many. We must obtain ¹  grain in order to eat and stay alive.”

Not one of them will survive. ¹  I will bring disaster on those men from Anathoth who threatened you. ²  A day of reckoning is coming for them.” ³ 

Though I scatter ¹  them among the nations, they will remember in far-off places – they and their children will sprout forth and return.

And if those days had not been cut short, no one would be saved. But for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.

Therefore I urge you to take some food, for this is important ¹  for your survival. ²  For not one of you will lose a hair from his head.”

If you, O Lord, were to keep track of ¹  sins, O Lord, who could stand before you? ² 

He throws his hailstones ¹  like crumbs. Who can withstand the cold wind he sends? ² 

They will hear, ‘Run! Save yourselves! Even if you must be like a lonely shrub in the desert!’ ¹ 

We have submitted ¹  to Egypt and Assyria in order to buy food to eat. ²
