He spreads out the northern skies ¹  over empty space; ²  he suspends the earth on nothing. ³ 

he alone spreads out the heavens, and treads ¹  on the waves of the sea; ² 

You will see a king in his splendor; ¹  you will see a wide land. ² 

He is the one who sits on the earth’s horizon; ¹  its inhabitants are like grasshoppers before him. ²  He is the one who stretches out the sky like a thin curtain, ³  and spreads it out ⁴  like a pitched tent. ⁵ 

He covers himself with light as if it were a garment. He stretches out the skies like a tent curtain,

for he stretches out his hand against God, ¹  and vaunts himself ²  against the Almighty,

Her hands ¹  take hold ²  of the distaff, and her hands grasp the spindle.

The Egyptians are mere humans, not God; their horses are made of flesh, not spirit. The Lord will strike with ¹  his hand; the one who helps will stumble and the one being helped will fall. Together they will perish. ²

She extends ¹  her hand ²  to the poor, and reaches out her hand to the needy.

A carpenter takes measurements; ¹  he marks out an outline of its form; ²  he scrapes ³  it with chisels, and marks it with a compass. He patterns it after the human form, ⁴  like a well-built human being, and puts it in a shrine. ⁵ 

Moab ¹  will spread out its hands in the middle of it, ²  just as a swimmer spreads his hands to swim; the Lord ³  will bring down Moab’s ⁴  pride as it spreads its hands. ⁵ 

“Is it by your understanding that the hawk soars, ¹  and spreads its wings toward the south?
