People ¹  do not despise a thief when he steals to fulfill his need ²  when he is hungry.

¹ (21:37) ²  “If a man steals an ox or a sheep and kills it or sells it, he must pay back ³  five head of cattle for the ox, and four sheep for the one sheep. ⁴ 

Terrors overwhelm him like a flood; ¹  at night a whirlwind carries him off.

The speaker went on to say, “This is a curse ¹  traveling across the whole earth. For example, according to the curse whoever steals ²  will be removed from the community; or on the other hand (according to the curse) whoever swears falsely will suffer the same fate.”

oppresses the poor and the needy, ¹  commits robbery, does not give back what was given in pledge, prays to ²  idols, performs abominable acts,

The one who steals must steal no longer; rather he must labor, doing good with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with the one who has need.

‘Cursed is the one who moves his neighbor’s boundary marker.’ Then all the people will say, ‘Amen!’

If he snatches away, ¹  who can turn him back? ²  Who dares to say to him, ‘What are you doing?’

How often ¹  are they like straw before the wind, and like chaff swept away ²  by a whirlwind?

Before daybreak ¹  the murderer rises up; he kills the poor and the needy; in the night he is ²  like a thief. ³ 

I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have so that no one can take away ¹  your crown. ² 

“Whoever kidnaps someone ¹  and sells him, ²  or is caught still holding him, ³  must surely be put to death.

If the stolen item should in fact be found ¹  alive in his possession, ²  whether it be an ox or a donkey or a sheep, he must pay back double. ³ 

Those along the path are the ones who have heard; then the devil ¹  comes and takes away the word ²  from their hearts, so that they may not believe ³  and be saved.
