“But there is hope for ¹  a tree: ²  If it is cut down, it will sprout again, and its new shoots will not fail.

to satisfy a devastated and desolate land, and to cause it to sprout with vegetation? ¹ 

For evil does not come up from the dust, ¹  nor does trouble spring up from the ground,

And the staff of the man whom I choose will blossom; so I will rid myself of the complaints of the Israelites, which they murmur against you.”

O sky, rain down from above! Let the clouds send down showers ¹  of deliverance! Let the earth absorb it ²  so salvation may grow, ³  and deliverance may sprout up ⁴  along with it. I, the Lord, create it. ⁵ 

When they sprout leaves, you see ¹  for yourselves and know that summer is now near.

They will sprout up like a tree in the grass, ¹  like poplars beside channels of water.

The sovereign Lord showed me this: I saw ¹  him making locusts just as the crops planted late ²  were beginning to sprout. (The crops planted late sprout after the royal harvest. ³ )

When the wicked sprout up like grass, and all the evildoers glisten, ¹  it is so that they may be annihilated. ² 

¹ The rain and snow fall from the sky and do not return, but instead water the earth and make it produce and yield crops, and provide seed for the planter and food for those who must eat.

There I will make David strong; ¹  I have determined that my chosen king’s dynasty will continue. ² 

A shoot will grow out of Jesse’s ¹  root stock, a bud will sprout ²  from his roots.

In those days and at that time I will raise up for them a righteous descendant ¹  of David. “‘He will do what is just and right in the land.

He goes to sleep and gets up, night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how.

God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: ¹  plants yielding seeds according to their kinds, ²  and ³  trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds.” It was so.

For just as the ground produces its crops and a garden yields its produce, so the sovereign Lord will cause deliverance ¹  to grow, and give his people reason to praise him in the sight of all the nations. ² 

On that day I will make Israel powerful, ¹  and I will give you the right to be heard ²  among them. Then they will know that I am the Lord.”

It will produce thorns and thistles for you, but you will eat the grain ¹  of the field.

at the scent ¹  of water it will flourish ²  and put forth ³  shoots like a new plant.

then let thorns sprout up in place of wheat, and in place of barley, weeds!” ¹  The words of Job are ended.
