Does he argue ¹  with useless ²  talk, with words that have no value in them?

Job ¹  has not directed ²  his words to me, and so I will not reply to him with your arguments. ³ 

Do you intend to criticize mere words, and treat ¹  the words of a despairing man as wind?

Will ¹  there be an end to your ²  windy words? ³  Or what provokes ⁴  you that you answer? ⁵ 

“How long until you ¹  make an end of words? ²  You must consider, ³  and then ⁴  we can talk.

“They are dismayed ²  and cannot answer any more; they have nothing left to say. ³ 

“But now, O Job, listen to my words, and hear ¹  everything I have to say! ² 

With him I will speak face to face, ¹  openly, ²  and not in riddles; and he will see the form ³  of the Lord. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?”

All of them respond to you, saying: ‘You too have become weak like us! You have become just like us!

He will not cry out or shout; he will not publicize himself in the streets. ¹ 

I also could speak ¹  like you, if ²  you were in my place; I could pile up ³  words against you and I could shake my head at you. ⁴ 

When I came ¹  to you, brothers and sisters, ²  I did not come with superior eloquence or wisdom as I proclaimed the testimony ³  of God.

My conversation and my preaching were not with persuasive words of wisdom, but with a demonstration of the Spirit and of power,

because some say, “His letters are weighty and forceful, but his physical presence is weak ¹  and his speech is of no account.” ² 

These people are grumblers and ¹  fault-finders who go ²  wherever their desires lead them, ³  and they give bombastic speeches, ⁴  enchanting folks ⁵  for their own gain. ⁶ 

However, it was not until ¹  the first day of the eleventh month ²  of the fortieth year ³  that Moses addressed the Israelites just as ⁴  the Lord had instructed him to do.

Then you will know that I, the Lord, have heard all the insults you spoke against the mountains of Israel, saying, “They are desolate, they have been given to us for food.”

For these are the kind who do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By their smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds ¹  of the naive.

For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel – and not with clever speech, so that the cross of Christ would not become useless. ¹ 

to execute judgment on ¹  all, and to convict every person ²  of all their thoroughly ungodly deeds ³  that they have committed, ⁴  and of all the harsh words that ungodly sinners have spoken against him.” ⁵
