I will not allow my eyes to sleep, or my eyelids to slumber,

“A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to relax,

Look! Israel’s protector ¹  does not sleep or slumber!

Permit no sleep to your eyes ¹  or slumber to your eyelids.

A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to relax, ¹ 

May he not allow your foot to slip! May your protector ¹  not sleep! ² 

All their watchmen ¹  are blind, they are unaware. ²  All of them are like mute dogs, unable to bark. They pant, ³  lie down, and love to snooze.

In a dream, a night vision, when deep sleep falls on people as they sleep in their beds.

Your shepherds ¹  are sleeping, O king of Assyria! Your officers ²  are slumbering! ³  Your people are scattered like sheep ⁴  on the mountains and there is no one to regather them!

How long, you sluggard, will you lie there? When will you rise from your sleep? ¹ 

None tire or stumble, they don’t stop to nap or sleep. They don’t loosen their belts, or unstrap their sandals to rest. ¹ 

as it is written, “God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that would not see and ears that would not hear, to this very day.” ¹ 

because drunkards and gluttons become impoverished, and drowsiness ¹  clothes them with rags. ² 

For they cannot sleep unless they cause harm; ¹  they are robbed of sleep ²  until they make someone stumble. ³ 

“I am about to make Jerusalem ¹  a cup that brings dizziness ²  to all the surrounding nations; indeed, Judah will also be included when Jerusalem is besieged.

And do this ¹  because we know ²  the time, that it is already the hour for us to awake from sleep, for our salvation is now nearer than when we became believers.

And in their greed they will exploit you with deceptive words. Their ¹  condemnation pronounced long ago ²  is not sitting idly by; ³  their ⁴  destruction is not asleep.
