The diligent ¹  person ²  will rule, but the slothful ³  will become a slave. ⁴ 

The lazy person does not roast ¹  his prey, but personal possessions ²  are precious to the diligent.

What the sluggard desires ¹  will kill him, ²  for his hands ³  refuse to work.

Do not lag in zeal, be enthusiastic in spirit, serve the Lord.

The one who ¹  is slack ²  in his work is a brother ³  to one who destroys. ⁴ 

The sluggard plunges ¹  his hand in the dish; he is too lazy to bring it back to his mouth. ² 

But his master answered, ¹  ‘Evil and lazy slave! So you knew that I harvest where I didn’t sow and gather where I didn’t scatter?

The way of the sluggard is like a hedge of thorns, ¹  but the path of the upright is like ²  a highway. ³ 

The sluggard plunges ¹  his hand in the dish, and he will not even bring it back to his mouth! ² 

The sluggard says, “There is a lion ¹  outside! I will be killed in the middle of the streets!” ² 

I passed by the field of a sluggard, by the vineyard of one who lacks wisdom. ¹ 

The sluggard ¹  says, “There is a lion in the road! A lion in the streets!” ² 

Like ¹  a door that turns on its hinges, ²  so a sluggard turns ³  on his bed.

On this topic we have much to say ¹  and it is difficult to explain, since you have become sluggish ²  in hearing.

When ¹  you lie down among the sheepfolds, ²  the wings of the dove are covered with silver and with glittering gold. ³ 

so that you may not be sluggish, ¹  but imitators of those who through faith and perseverance inherit the promises.

They said, “Come on, let’s attack them, ¹  for ²  we saw their land and it is very good. You seem lethargic, ³  but don’t hesitate ⁴  to invade and conquer ⁵  the land.
