You believe that God is one; well and good. ¹  Even the demons believe that – and tremble with fear. ² 

Tremble, you complacent ones! Shake with fear, you carefree ones! Strip off your clothes and expose yourselves – put sackcloth on your waist! ¹ 

For, when I think ¹  about this, I am terrified ²  and my body feels a shudder. ³ 

Be amazed at this, O heavens! ¹  Be shocked and utterly dumbfounded,” says the Lord.

I will shock many peoples with you, and their kings will shiver with horror because of you. When I brandish my sword before them, every moment each one will tremble for his life, on the day of your fall.

All the inhabitants of the coastlands are shocked at you, and their kings are horribly afraid – their faces are troubled.

Pay attention to me and answer me! I am so upset ¹  and distressed, ²  I am beside myself, ³ 

Fear and panic overpower me; ¹  terror overwhelms ²  me.

(63:19b) ¹  If only you would tear apart the sky ²  and come down! The mountains would tremble ³  before you!

In fact, the scene ¹  was so terrifying that Moses said, “I shudder with fear.” ² 

In a year’s time ¹  you carefree ones will shake with fear, for the grape ²  harvest will fail, and the fruit harvest will not arrive.

Their slander will bring about their demise. ¹  All who see them will shudder, ² 

When you performed awesome deeds that took us by surprise, ¹  you came down, and the mountains trembled ²  before you.

The people of the earth will quake when they hear Babylon has been captured. Her cries of anguish will be heard by the other nations.” ¹ 

“Son of man, eat your bread with trembling, ¹  and drink your water with anxious shaking.

The people of the earth will quake when they hear of their downfall. ¹  Their cries of anguish will be heard all the way to the Gulf of Aqaba. ² 

Here is a message about Egypt: Look, the Lord rides on a swift-moving cloud and approaches Egypt. The idols of Egypt tremble before him; the Egyptians lose their courage. ¹ 

At that time ¹  the Egyptians ²  will be like women. ³  They will tremble and fear because the Lord who commands armies brandishes his fist against them. ⁴ 

So I, the Lord, say: “You have not really obeyed me and granted freedom to your neighbor and fellow countryman. ¹  Therefore, I will grant you freedom, the freedom ²  to die in war, or by starvation or disease. I, the Lord, affirm it! ³  I will make all the kingdoms of the earth horrified at what happens to you. ⁴
