He shatters the great without inquiry, ¹  and sets up others in their place.

Your right hand, O Lord, was majestic ¹  in power, your right hand, O Lord, shattered the enemy.

He brings an end to wars throughout the earth; ¹  he shatters ²  the bow and breaks ³  the spear; he burns ⁴  the shields with fire. ⁵ 

For he shattered the bronze gates, and hacked through the iron bars. ¹ 

Then there will be a fourth kingdom, one strong like iron. Just like iron breaks in pieces and shatters everything, and as iron breaks in pieces ¹  all of these metals, ²  so it will break in pieces and crush the others. ³ 

The Lord’s shout breaks ¹  the cedars, the Lord shatters ²  the cedars of Lebanon. ³ 

For ¹  he ²  wounds, ³  but he also bandages; he strikes, but his hands also heal.

With an east wind you shatter ¹  the large ships. ² 

The Lord frustrates ¹  the decisions of the nations; he nullifies the plans ²  of the peoples.

The everlasting God is a refuge, and underneath you are his eternal arms; ¹  he has driven out enemies before you, and has said, “Destroy!”

He executes judgment ¹  against ²  the nations; he fills the valleys with corpses; ³  he shatters their heads over the vast battlefield. ⁴ 

As when one plows and breaks up the soil, ¹  so our bones are scattered at the mouth of Sheol.

I cry out ¹  until morning; like a lion he shatters all my bones; you turn day into night and end my life. ² 

My message is like a fire that purges dross! ¹  It is like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces! ²  I, the Lord, so affirm it! ³ 

Your rowers have brought you into surging waters. The east wind has wrecked you in the heart of the seas.

It shatters in pieces like a clay jar, so shattered to bits that none of it can be salvaged. ¹  Among its fragments one cannot find a shard large enough ²  to scoop a hot coal from a fire ³  or to skim off water from a cistern.” ⁴ 

No one can withstand ¹  his indignation! ²  No one can resist ³  his fierce anger! ⁴  His wrath is poured out like volcanic fire, boulders are broken up ⁵  as he approaches. ⁶ 

He takes his battle position ¹  and shakes ²  the earth; with a mere look he frightens ³  the nations. The ancient mountains disintegrate; ⁴  the primeval hills are flattened. He travels on the ancient roads. ⁵ 

A ¹  spirit seizes him, and he suddenly screams; ²  it throws him into convulsions ³  and causes him to foam at the mouth. It hardly ever leaves him alone, torturing ⁴  him severely.

The Lord shatters ¹  his adversaries; ²  he thunders against them from ³  the heavens. The Lord executes judgment to the ends of the earth. He will strengthen ⁴  his king and exalt the power ⁵  of his anointed one.” ⁶
