Those ¹  who passed by defamed him, shaking their heads

You made us ¹  an object of ridicule ²  among the nations; foreigners treat us with contempt. ³ 

Those who passed by defamed him, shaking their heads and saying, “Aha! You who can destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days,

“Son of man, eat your bread with trembling, ¹  and drink your water with anxious shaking.

In my zeal, in the fire of my fury, ¹  I declare that on that day there will be a great earthquake ²  in the land of Israel.

he who shakes the earth out of its place ¹  so that its pillars tremble; ² 

The Lord’s shout shakes ¹  the wilderness, the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh. ² 

Fear and panic overpower me; ¹  terror overwhelms ²  me.

This is what will happen throughout ¹  the earth, among the nations. It will be like when they beat an olive tree, and just a few olives are left at the end of the harvest. ² 

Then his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “I will once more shake not only the earth but heaven too.” ¹ 

Now this phrase “once more” indicates the removal of what is shaken, that is, of created things, so that what is unshaken may remain.

In excitement and impatience it consumes the ground; ¹  it cannot stand still ²  when the trumpet is blown.

All who see me taunt ¹  me; they mock me ²  and shake their heads. ³ 

You made the earth quake; you split it open. ¹  Repair its breaches, for it is ready to fall. ² 

I looked at the mountains and saw that they were shaking. All the hills were swaying back and forth!

Now the coastlands will tremble on the day of your fall; the coastlands by the sea will be terrified by your passing.’ ¹ 

I see the tents of Cushan overwhelmed by trouble; ¹  the tent curtains of the land of Midian are shaking. ² 

The people of ¹  Heshbon and Elealeh cry out, their voices are heard as far away as Jahaz. For this reason Moab’s soldiers shout in distress; their courage wavers. ² 

At that time ¹  the Egyptians ²  will be like women. ³  They will tremble and fear because the Lord who commands armies brandishes his fist against them. ⁴ 

So I prophesied as I was commanded. There was a sound when I prophesied – I heard ¹  a rattling, and the bones came together, bone to bone.
