For his hands and feet had often been bound with chains and shackles, ¹  but ²  he had torn the chains apart and broken the shackles in pieces. No one was strong enough to subdue him.

They bind ¹  their kings in chains, and their nobles in iron shackles,

And now, ¹  I will break Assyria’s ²  yoke bar ³  from your neck; ⁴  I will tear apart the shackles ⁵  that are on you.” ⁶ 

¹ He puts my feet in shackles; he watches closely all my paths.’

The shackles hurt his feet; ¹  his neck was placed in an iron collar, ² 

Then he had Zedekiah’s eyes put out and had him bound in chains ¹  to be led off to Babylon.

For Jesus ¹  had started commanding ²  the evil ³  spirit to come out of the man. (For it had seized him many times, so ⁴  he would be bound with chains and shackles ⁵  and kept under guard. But ⁶  he would break the restraints and be driven by the demon into deserted ⁷  places.) ⁸ 

The Philistines captured him and gouged out his eyes. They brought him down to Gaza and bound him in bronze chains. He became a grinder in the prison.

He loosens ¹  the bonds ²  of kings and binds a loincloth ³  around their waist.

They say, ¹  “Let’s tear off the shackles they’ve put on us! ²  Let’s free ourselves from ³  their ropes!”

So the Lord brought against them the commanders of the army of the king of Assyria. They seized Manasseh, put hooks in his nose, ¹  bound him with bronze chains, and carried him away to Babylon.

He had Zedekiah’s eyes put out and had him bound in chains. ¹  Then the king of Babylon had him led off to Babylon and he was imprisoned there until the day he died.

King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon attacked him, ¹  bound him with bronze chains, and carried him away ²  to Babylon.

He brought them out of the utter darkness, ¹  and tore off their shackles.

ג (Gimel) He has walled me in ¹  so that I cannot get out; he has weighted me down with heavy prison chains. ² 

Wretched man that I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?

And you put my feet in the stocks ¹  and you watch all my movements; ²  you put marks ³  on the soles of my feet.

Suddenly a great earthquake occurred, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. Immediately all the doors flew open, and the bonds ¹  of all the prisoners came loose.

Zedekiah’s sons were executed while Zedekiah was forced to watch. ¹  The king of Babylon ²  then had Zedekiah’s eyes put out, bound him in bronze chains, and carried him off to Babylon.
