and how our chief priests and rulers handed him over ¹  to be condemned to death, and crucified ²  him.

You snakes, you offspring of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell? ¹ 

So ¹  Pilate ²  decided ³  that their demand should be granted.

For, I think, God has exhibited us apostles last of all, as men condemned to die, because we have become a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to people.

Deliver those being taken away to death, and hold back those slipping to the slaughter. ¹

Everyone who does not observe both the law of your God and the law of the king will be completely ¹  liable to the appropriate penalty, whether it is death or banishment or confiscation of property or detainment in prison.”

Then the priests and the prophets made their charges before the officials and all the people. They said, ¹  “This man should be condemned to die ²  because he prophesied against this city. You have heard him do so ³  with your own ears.”

Then the officials and all the people rendered their verdict to the priests and the prophets. They said, ¹  “This man should not be condemned to die. ²  For he has spoken to us under the authority of the Lord our God.” ³
