How then would the scriptures that say it must happen this way be fulfilled?”

Then he opened their minds so they could understand the scriptures, ¹ 

This gospel ¹  he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy scriptures,

You study the scriptures thoroughly ¹  because you think in them you possess eternal life, ²  and it is these same scriptures ³  that testify about me,

for he refuted the Jews vigorously ¹  in public debate, ²  demonstrating from the scriptures that the Christ ³  was Jesus. ⁴ 

Jesus ¹  answered them, “You are deceived, ²  because you don’t know the scriptures or the power of God.

and that he was buried, and that he was raised ¹  on the third day according to the scriptures,

Then ¹  beginning with Moses and all the prophets, ²  he interpreted to them the things written about ³  himself in all the scriptures.

They ¹  said to each other, “Didn’t ²  our hearts ³  burn within us ⁴  while he was speaking with us on the road, while he was explaining ⁵  the scriptures to us?”

Paul went to the Jews in the synagogue, ¹  as he customarily did, and on three Sabbath days he addressed ²  them from the scriptures,

Now a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, arrived in Ephesus. ¹  He was an eloquent speaker, ²  well-versed ³  in the scriptures.

Jesus said to them, “Aren’t you deceived ¹  for this reason, because you don’t know the scriptures or the power of God?

Day after day I was with you, teaching in the temple courts, yet ¹  you did not arrest me. But this has happened so that ²  the scriptures would be fulfilled.”

For everything that was written in former times was written for our instruction, so that through endurance and through encouragement of the scriptures we may have hope.

For I passed on to you as of first importance ¹  what I also received – that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures,

But this has happened so that ¹  the scriptures of the prophets would be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples left him and fled.

These Jews ¹  were more open-minded ²  than those in Thessalonica, ³  for they eagerly ⁴  received ⁵  the message, examining ⁶  the scriptures carefully every day ⁷  to see if these things were so.

Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the scriptures: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. ¹  This is from the Lord, and it is marvelous in our eyes’? ² 

and how from infancy you have known the holy writings, which are able to give you wisdom for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

but now is disclosed, and through the prophetic scriptures has been made known to all the nations, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith –
