These things may be treated as an allegory, ¹  for these women represent two covenants. One is from Mount Sinai bearing children for slavery; this is Hagar.

For every high priest is taken from among the people ¹  and appointed ²  to represent them before God, ³  to offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins.

The seven good cows represent seven years, and the seven good heads of grain represent seven years. Both dreams have the same meaning. ¹ 

‘These large beasts, which are four in number, represent four kings who will arise from the earth.

I for my part will stay at Mizpah to represent you before the Babylonians ¹  whenever they come to us. You for your part go ahead and harvest the wine, the dates, the figs, ²  and the olive oil, and store them in jars. Go ahead and settle down in the towns that you have taken over.” ³ 

The seven lean, bad-looking cows that came up after them represent seven years, as do the seven empty heads of grain burned with the east wind. They represent ¹  seven years of famine.

Now listen to me, ¹  I will give you advice, and may God be with you: You be a representative for the people to God, ²  and you bring ³  their disputes ⁴  to God;

The horn that was broken ¹  and in whose place there arose four others stands for four kingdoms that will arise from his nation, though they will not have his strength.

(This requires ¹  a mind that has wisdom.) The seven heads are seven mountains ²  the woman sits on. They are also seven kings:

Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles.

I will make you ¹  extremely ²  fruitful. I will make nations of you, and kings will descend from you. ³ 

“This is its meaning,” Joseph said to him. “The three branches represent ¹  three days.

Joseph replied, “This is its meaning: The three baskets represent ¹  three days.

Now an intermediary is not for one party alone, but God is one. ¹ 

The Lord said to Moses, “Write down ¹  these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.”

You must put pure frankincense ¹  on each row, ²  and it will become a memorial portion ³  for the bread, a gift ⁴  to the Lord.

He told the Israelites, “When your children someday ask their fathers, ‘What do these stones represent?’ ¹ 

So he said, “These are the two anointed ones ¹  who stand by the Lord of the whole earth.”

Then ¹  the angel ²  said to me, “The waters you saw (where the prostitute is seated) are peoples, multitudes, ³  nations, and languages.

Let our leaders take steps ¹  on behalf of all the assembly. Let all those in our towns who have married foreign women come at an appointed time, and with them the elders of each town and its judges, until the hot anger of our God is turned away from us in this matter.”
