For even if I made you sad ¹  by my letter, ²  I do not regret having written it ³  (even though I did regret it, ⁴  for ⁵  I see that my letter made you sad, ⁶  though only for a short time).

For sadness as intended by God produces a repentance that leads to salvation, leaving no regret, but worldly sadness brings about death.

“I regret that I have made Saul king, for he has turned away from me and has not done what I told him to do.” Samuel became angry and he cried out to the Lord all that night.

The Preeminent One ¹  of Israel does not go back on his word ²  or change his mind, for he is not a human being who changes his mind.” ³ 

Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. No one regretted his death; ¹  he was buried in the City of David, ²  but not in the royal tombs.

A person who has a quick temper ¹  does foolish things, and a person with crafty schemes ²  is hated. ³ 

For the scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” ¹ 

I have listened to them very carefully, ¹  but they do not speak honestly. None of them regrets the evil he has done. None of them says, “I have done wrong!” ²  All of them persist in their own wayward course ³  like a horse charging recklessly into battle.

Don’t worry ¹  about your belongings, for the best of all the land of Egypt will be yours.’”

Afterward David’s conscience bothered him ¹  because he had cut off an edge of Saul’s robe.

In you, O Lord, I have taken shelter! Never let me be humiliated!

Esteem her highly ¹  and she will exalt you; she will honor you if you embrace her.

The heart of her husband has confidence ¹  in her, and he has no lack of gain. ² 

I will maintain my righteousness and never let it go; my conscience ¹  will not reproach me for as long as I live. ² 

Now when ¹  Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus ²  had been condemned, he regretted what he had done and returned the thirty silver coins to the chief priests and the elders,

He ¹  said, “The time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God ²  is near. Repent and believe the gospel!”

Another ¹  said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, ²  and I am going out ³  to examine them. Please excuse me.’

Even if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times returns to you saying, ‘I repent,’ you must forgive ¹  him.”

Furthermore, ¹  they did not repent of their murders, of their magic spells, ²  of their sexual immorality, or of their stealing.

Give sincere homage! ¹  Otherwise he ²  will be angry, ³  and you will die because of your behavior, ⁴  when his anger quickly ignites. ⁵  How blessed ⁶  are all who take shelter in him! ⁷
