You have been rebelling against him ¹  from the very first day I knew you!

The filthy, ¹  stained city is as good as dead; the city filled with oppressors is finished! ² 

“Son of man, you are living in the midst of a rebellious house. ¹  They have eyes to see, but do not see, and ears to hear, but do not hear, ²  because they are a rebellious house.

For these are rebellious people – they are lying children, children unwilling to obey the Lord’s law. ¹ 

But these people have stubborn and rebellious hearts. They have turned aside and gone their own way. ¹ 

“Son of man, has not the house of Israel, that rebellious house, said to you, ‘What are you doing?’

for I know about your rebellion and stubbornness. ¹  Indeed, even while I have been living among you to this very day, you have rebelled against the Lord; you will be even more rebellious after my death! ² 

As for you, son of man, listen to what I am saying to you: Do not rebel like that rebellious house! Open your mouth and eat what I am giving you.”

You must speak my words to them whether they listen or not, for they are rebellious.

The sovereign Lord has spoken to me clearly; ¹  I have not rebelled, I have not turned back.

And as for them, ¹  whether they listen ²  or not – for they are a rebellious ³  house ⁴  – they will know that a prophet has been among them.

Now ¹  let the king be aware that the Jews who came up to us from you have gone to Jerusalem. They are rebuilding that rebellious and odious city. ²  They are completing its walls and repairing its foundations.

If a person has a stubborn, rebellious son who pays no attention to his father or mother, and they discipline him to no avail, ¹ 

They must declare to the elders ¹  of his city, “Our son is stubborn and rebellious and pays no attention to what we say – he is a glutton and drunkard.”
