Jesus ¹  said to them, “No doubt you will quote to me the proverb, ‘Physician, heal yourself!’ ²  and say, ‘What we have heard that you did in Capernaum, ³  do here in your hometown too.’”

“‘Observe – everyone who quotes proverbs will quote this proverb about you: “Like mother, like daughter.”

“As surely as I live, declares the sovereign Lord, ¹  you will not quote this proverb in Israel anymore!

This is the portion of the wicked man allotted by God, ¹  the inheritance that evildoers receive from the Almighty.

Like a thorn ¹  that goes into the hand of a drunkard, so is a proverb in the mouth of a fool. ² 

“When that time comes, people will no longer say, ‘The parents have eaten sour grapes, but the children’s teeth have grown numb.’ ¹ 

“Son of man, what is this proverb you have in the land of Israel, ‘The days pass slowly, and every vision fails’?

So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper, and ¹  I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” ² 

“What do you mean by quoting this proverb concerning the land of Israel, “‘The fathers eat sour grapes And the children’s teeth become numb?’ ¹ 

Therefore tell them, ‘This is what the sovereign Lord says: I hereby end this proverb; they will not recite it in Israel any longer.’ But say to them, ‘The days are at hand when every vision will be fulfilled. ¹
