There were two copies of the deed of purchase. One was sealed and contained the order of transfer and the conditions of purchase. ¹  The other was left unsealed.

“After I had given the copies of the deed of purchase to Baruch son of Neriah, I prayed to the Lord,

I took both copies of the deed of purchase ¹  and gave them to Baruch son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah. I gave them to him in the presence ²  of my cousin ³  Hanamel, the witnesses who had signed the deed of purchase, and all the Judeans who were housed in the courtyard of the guardhouse.

‘The Lord God of Israel who rules over all ¹  says, “Take these documents, both the sealed copy of the deed of purchase and the unsealed copy. Put them in a clay jar so that they may be preserved for a long time to come.”’ ² 

I signed the deed of purchase, ¹  sealed it, and had some men serve as witnesses to the purchase. ²  I weighed out the silver for him on a scale.

If there are still many years, in keeping with them ¹  he must refund most of the cost of his purchase for his redemption,

You may purchase ¹  food to eat and water to drink from them.

The field and the cave in it were acquired from the sons of Heth.” ¹ 

It cannot be measured out for purchase ¹  with the gold of Ophir, with precious onyx ²  or sapphires.

“It’s worthless! It’s worthless!” ¹  says the buyer, ²  but when he goes on his way, he boasts. ³ 

but if a priest buys a person with his own money, ¹  that person ²  may eat the holy offerings, ³  and those born in the priest’s ⁴  own house may eat his food. ⁵ 

The more years there are, ¹  the more you may make its purchase price, and the fewer years there are, ²  the less you must make its purchase price, because he is only selling to you a number of years of ³  produce.

With this money you should be sure to purchase bulls, rams, and lambs, along with the appropriate ¹  meal offerings and libations. You should bring them to the altar of the temple of your God which is in Jerusalem.

‘Hanamel, the son of your uncle Shallum, will come to you soon. He will say to you, “Buy my field at Anathoth because you are entitled ¹  as my closest relative to buy it.”’ ² 

Adah gave birth to Jabal; he was the first ¹  of those who live in tents and keep ²  livestock.

So I paid fifteen shekels of silver and about seven bushels of barley ¹  to purchase her.

to redeem those who were under the law, so that we may be adopted as sons with full rights. ¹ 

who gave himself as a ransom for all, revealing God’s purpose at his appointed time. ¹ 

Hasn’t he treated us like foreigners? He not only sold us, but completely wasted ¹  the money paid for us! ² 

“‘As for your male and female slaves ¹  who may belong to you – you may buy male and female slaves from the nations all around you. ²
