Where, then, is boasting? ¹  It is excluded! By what principle? ²  Of works? No, but by the principle of faith!

And all who will behave ¹  in accordance with this rule, peace and mercy be on them, and on the Israel of God. ² 

God has declared one principle; two principles I have heard: ¹  God is strong, ² 

If the ox ¹  gores a son or a daughter, the owner ²  will be dealt with according to this rule. ³ 

“Truly, ¹  I know that this is so. But how ²  can a human ³  be just before ⁴  God? ⁵ 

A man who commits adultery with a woman lacks wisdom, ¹  whoever does it destroys his own life. ² 

One who has isolated himself ¹  seeks his own desires; ²  he rejects ³  all sound judgment.

But now it is no longer me doing it, but sin that lives in me.

So, I find the law that when I want to do good, evil is present with me.

Therefore it is necessary to be in subjection, not only because of the wrath of the authorities ¹  but also because of your conscience. ² 

Am I saying these things only on the basis of common sense, ¹  or does the law not say this as well?

In the same way the Lord commanded those who proclaim the gospel to receive their living by the gospel.

You must not show pity; the principle will be a life for a life, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a hand for a hand, and a foot for a foot. ¹ 

The Lord who commands armies planned it – to dishonor the pride that comes from all her beauty, ¹  to humiliate all the dignitaries of the earth.

Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer me doing it but sin that lives in me.

but as it is written: “Those who were not told about him will see, and those who have not heard will understand.” ¹ 

For the hidden power of lawlessness ¹  is already at work. However, the one who holds him back ²  will do so until he is taken out of the way,

To obey the Lord is the fundamental principle for wise living; ¹  all who carry out his precepts acquire good moral insight. ²  He will receive praise forever. ³ 

Masters, ¹  treat your slaves ²  the same way, ³  giving up the use of threats, ⁴  because you know that both you and they have the same master in heaven, ⁵  and there is no favoritism with him.

Everyone who has been fathered ¹  by God does not practice sin, ²  because ³  God’s ⁴  seed ⁵  resides in him, and thus ⁶  he is not able to sin, because he has been fathered by God.
