Furthermore, those who have fallen asleep ¹  in Christ have also perished.

How the warriors have fallen! The weapons of war ¹  are destroyed!

Call to mind now: ¹  Who, ²  being innocent, ever perished? ³  And where were upright people ⁴  ever destroyed? ⁵ 

If I had not found encouragement in your law, ¹  I would have died in my sorrow. ² 

So I said, “My endurance has expired; I have lost all hope of deliverance ¹  from the Lord.”

Through these things ¹  the world existing at that time was destroyed when it was deluged with water.

They and all that they had went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed over them. So they perished from among the community.

The enemy’s cities have been reduced to permanent ruins; ¹  you destroyed their cities; ²  all memory of the enemies has perished. ³ 

They were destroyed at Endor; ¹  their corpses were like manure ²  on the ground.

So tell them: ‘This is a nation that has not obeyed the Lord their God and has not accepted correction. Faithfulness is nowhere to be found in it. These people do not even profess it anymore. ¹ 

Moreover, the strength of their ¹  hands – what use was it to me? Men whose strength ²  had perished;

We have overpowered them; ¹  Heshbon has perished as far as Dibon. We have shattered them as far as Nophah, which ²  reaches to Medeba.”

So it was that after all the military men had been eliminated from the community, ¹ 

Be distressed, ¹  farmers; wail, vinedressers, over the wheat and the barley. For the harvest of the field has perished.

What they loved, ¹  as well as what they hated ²  and envied, ³  perished long ago, and they no longer have a part in anything that happens on earth. ⁴ 

Jerusalem, why are you ¹  now shouting so loudly? ²  Has your king disappeared? ³  Has your wise leader ⁴  been destroyed? Is this why ⁵  pain grips ⁶  you as if you were a woman in labor?

The Lord said, “You were upset ¹  about this little ²  plant, something for which you have not worked nor did you do anything to make it grow. It grew up overnight and died the next day. ³ 

After him Judas the Galilean arose in the days of the census, ¹  and incited people to follow him in revolt. ²  He too was killed, and all who followed him were scattered.

Indeed, it was the very hand of the Lord that eliminated them from within ¹  the camp until they were all gone.

The Lord rules forever! ¹  The nations are driven out of his land. ²
