ע (Ayin) I do what is fair and right. ¹  Do not abandon me to my oppressors!

This is the portion of the wicked man allotted by God, ¹  the inheritance that evildoers receive from the Almighty.

The filthy, ¹  stained city is as good as dead; the city filled with oppressors is finished! ² 

Oppressors treat my ¹  people cruelly; creditors rule over them. ²  My people’s leaders mislead them; they give you confusing directions. ³ 

So ¹  I again considered ²  all the oppression ³  that continually occurs ⁴  on earth. ⁵  This is what I saw: ⁶  The oppressed ⁷  were in tears, ⁸  but no one was comforting them; no one delivers ⁹  them from the power of their oppressors.

Or ‘Deliver me ¹  from the enemy’s power, ²  and from the hand of tyrants ³  ransom ⁴  me’?

It ¹  will become a visual reminder in the land of Egypt of ²  the Lord who commands armies. When they cry out to the Lord because of oppressors, he will send them a deliverer and defender ³  who will rescue them.

Please let the Moabite fugitives live ¹  among you. Hide them ²  from the destroyer!” Certainly ³  the one who applies pressure will cease, ⁴  the destroyer will come to an end, those who trample will disappear ⁵  from the earth.

Nations will take them and bring them back to their own place. Then the family of Jacob will make foreigners their servants as they settle in the Lord’s land. ¹  They will make their captors captives and rule over the ones who oppressed them.

I will make your oppressors eat their own flesh; they will get drunk on their own blood, as if it were wine. ¹  Then all humankind ²  will recognize that I am the Lord, your deliverer, your protector, ³  the powerful ruler of Jacob.” ⁴ 

For foreigners ¹  attack me; ²  ruthless men, who do not respect God, seek my life. ³  (Selah)

The Lord ¹  made his people very fruitful, and made them ²  more numerous than their ³  enemies.

The water covered their enemies; not even one of them survived. ¹ 

I rescued you from Egypt’s power ¹  and from the power of all who oppressed you. I drove them out before you and gave their land to you.

The children of your oppressors will come bowing to you; all who treated you with disrespect will bow down at your feet. They will call you, ‘The City of the Lord, Zion of the Holy One of Israel.’ ¹ 

I broke the fangs ¹  of the wicked, and made him drop ²  his prey from his teeth.

My God, rescue me from the power ¹  of the wicked, from the hand of the cruel oppressor!

So a strong nation will extol you; the towns of ¹  powerful nations will fear you.

For with mocking lips and a foreign tongue he will speak to these people. ¹ 

For I looked forward to the day of vengeance, and then payback time arrived. ¹
