Do not give offense to Jews or Greeks or to the church of God,

Blessed is anyone ¹  who takes no offense at me.”

The one who forgives ¹  an offense seeks ²  love, but whoever repeats a matter separates close friends. ³ 

A person’s wisdom ¹  makes him slow to anger, ²  and it is his glory ³  to overlook ⁴  an offense.

We do not give anyone ¹  an occasion for taking an offense in anything, ²  so that no fault may be found with our ministry.

And so they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own house.”

Paul said in his defense, ¹  “I have committed no offense ²  against the Jewish law ³  or against the temple or against Caesar.” ⁴ 

Now, brothers and sisters, ¹  if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? ²  In that case the offense of the cross ³  has been removed. ⁴ 

and a stumbling-stone ¹  and a rock to trip over. ²  They stumble ³  because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do. ⁴ 

Isn’t this the carpenter, the son ¹  of Mary ²  and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And aren’t his sisters here with us?” And so they took offense at him.

This is the reason ¹  I do my best to always ²  have a clear ³  conscience toward God and toward people. ⁴ 

Then, ¹  if the guilty person is sentenced to a beating, ²  the judge shall force him to lie down and be beaten in his presence with the number of blows his wicked behavior deserves. ³ 

He will become a sanctuary, ¹  but a stone that makes a person trip, and a rock that makes one stumble – to the two houses of Israel. ²  He will become ³  a trap and a snare to the residents of Jerusalem. ⁴ 

just as it is written, “Look, I am laying in Zion a stone that will cause people to stumble and a rock that will make them fall, ¹  yet the one who believes in him will not be put to shame.” ² 

When Jesus was aware ¹  that his disciples were complaining ²  about this, he said to them, “Does this cause you to be offended? ³ 

It is a guilt offering; he was surely guilty before the Lord.”

For I would have committed ¹  a shameful act, ²  an iniquity to be judged. ³ 

Why do you people ¹  think ²  it is unbelievable ³  that ⁴  God raises the dead?

Jacob became angry ¹  and argued with Laban. “What did I do wrong?” he demanded of Laban. ²  “What sin of mine prompted you to chase after me in hot pursuit? ³
