When he came to the steps, Paul ¹  had to be carried ²  by the soldiers because of the violence ³  of the mob,

They will summon a mob who will stone you and hack you in pieces with their swords.

But the Jews became jealous, ¹  and gathering together some worthless men from the rabble in the marketplace, ²  they formed a mob ³  and set the city in an uproar. ⁴  They attacked Jason’s house, ⁵  trying to find Paul and Silas ⁶  to bring them out to the assembly. ⁷ 

The crowd joined the attack ¹  against them, and the magistrates tore the clothes ²  off Paul and Silas ³  and ordered them to be beaten with rods. ⁴ 

Jesus ¹  asked him, “What is your name?” And he said, “My name is Legion, ²  for we are many.”

Jesus then ¹  asked him, “What is your name?” He ²  said, “Legion,” ³  because many demons had entered him.

However, Ahikam son of Shaphan ¹  used his influence to keep Jeremiah from being handed over and executed by the people. ² 

“For this is what the sovereign Lord says: Bring up an army ¹  against them and subject them ²  to terror and plunder.

That army will pelt them with stones and slash them with their swords; they will kill their sons and daughters and burn their houses. ¹ 

He ¹  immediately took ²  soldiers and centurions ³  and ran down to the crowd. ⁴  When they saw ⁵  the commanding officer ⁶  and the soldiers, they stopped beating ⁷  Paul.

I hate the mob ¹  of evil men, and do not associate ²  with the wicked.

But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have him release ¹  Barabbas instead.

But this rabble ¹  who do not know the law are accursed!”

for a crowd of people ¹  followed them, ²  screaming, “Away with him!”

People ¹  have opened their mouths against me, they have struck my cheek in scorn; ²  they unite ³  together against me.

But those who are my enemies for no reason are numerous; ¹  those who hate me without cause outnumber me. ² 

A young man was following him, wearing only a linen cloth. They tried to arrest him,

Then the crowd came up and began to ask Pilate to release a prisoner for them, as was his custom. ¹ 

But they were insistent, ¹  demanding with loud shouts that he be crucified. And their shouts prevailed.

When they heard these things, they became furious ¹  and ground their teeth ²  at him.
