I loathe ¹  it; ²  I do not want to live forever; leave me alone, ³  for my days are a vapor! ⁴ 

O Lord, do I not hate those who hate you, and despise those who oppose you? ¹ 

“I ¹  am weary ²  of my life; I will complain without restraint; ³  I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.

And there you will remember your conduct ¹  and all your deeds by which you defiled yourselves. You will despise yourselves ²  because of all the evil deeds you have done.

Then you will remember your evil behavior ¹  and your deeds which were not good; you will loathe yourselves on account of your sins and your abominable deeds.

My child, do not despise discipline from the Lord, ¹  and do not loathe ²  his rebuke.

I am blameless. ¹  I do not know myself. ²  I despise my life.

so that his life loathes food, and his soul rejects appetizing fare. ¹ 

I take note of the treacherous and despise them, because they do not keep your instructions. ¹ 

And the people spoke against God and against Moses, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness, for there is no bread or water, and we ¹  detest this worthless ²  food.”

Fish ¹  in the Nile will die, the Nile will stink, and the Egyptians will be unable ²  to drink water from the Nile.”’”

Therefore I despise myself, ¹  and I repent in dust and ashes!

Then your survivors will remember me among the nations where they are exiled. They will realize ¹  how I was crushed by their unfaithful ²  heart which turned from me and by their eyes which lusted after their idols. They will loathe themselves ³  because of the evil they have done and because of all their abominable practices.

and though my physical condition put you to the test, you did not despise or reject me. ¹  Instead, you welcomed me as though I were an angel of God, ²  as though I were Christ Jesus himself! ³ 

They lost their appetite for all food, ¹  and they drew near the gates of death.

You who tell others not to commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor ¹  idols, do you rob temples?

Love must be ¹  without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil, cling to what is good.

Then I said, “Lord, ¹  have you completely rejected the nation of Judah? Do you despise ²  the city of Zion? Why have you struck us with such force that we are beyond recovery? ³  We hope for peace, but nothing good has come of it. We hope for a time of relief from our troubles, but experience terror. ⁴ 

You cause those who know me to keep their distance; you make me an appalling sight to them. I am trapped and cannot get free. ¹ 

For I don’t understand what I am doing. For I do not do what I want – instead, I do what I hate. ¹
