¹ These are the journeys of the Israelites, who went out of the land of Egypt by their divisions under the authority ²  of Moses and Aaron.

For which ones heard and rebelled? Was it not all who came out of Egypt under Moses’ leadership? ¹ 

if it is exhortation, he must exhort; if it is contributing, he must do so with sincerity; if it is leadership, he must do so with diligence; if it is showing mercy, he must do so with cheerfulness.

So Samuel led ¹  Israel all the days of his life.

May his days be few! ¹  May another take his job! ² 

Loyal love and truth ¹  preserve a king, and his throne is upheld by loyal love. ² 

If a king judges the poor in truth, ¹  his throne ²  will be established forever.

And God has placed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, gifts of healing, helps, gifts of leadership, different kinds of tongues.

Jair the Gileadite rose up after him; he led Israel for twenty-two years.

So do this: Dismiss the kings from their command, and replace them with military commanders.

When there is no guidance ¹  a nation falls, but there is success ²  in the abundance of counselors.

A king’s glory is ¹  the abundance of people, but the lack of subjects ²  is the ruin ³  of a ruler.

Doing wickedness ¹  is an abomination to kings, because a throne ²  is established in righteousness.

remove the wicked from before the king, ¹  and his throne ²  will be established in righteousness. ³ 

But as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

This saying ¹  is trustworthy: “If someone aspires to the office of overseer, ²  he desires a good work.”

Elders who provide effective leadership ¹  must be counted worthy ²  of double honor, ³  especially those who work hard in speaking ⁴  and teaching.

David then sent out the army – a third under the leadership of Joab, a third under the leadership of Joab’s brother Abishai son of Zeruiah, and a third under the leadership of Ittai the Gittite. The king said to the troops, “I too will indeed march out with you.”
