Indeed, ¹  the Lord knocks down those who live in a high place, he brings down an elevated town; he brings it down to the ground, ²  he throws it down to the dust.

“I am the good ¹  shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life ²  for the sheep.

Then ¹  when he has found it, he places it on his shoulders, rejoicing.

and lays the beams of the upper rooms of his palace on the rain clouds. ¹  He makes the clouds his chariot, and travels along on the wings of the wind. ² 

A trap ¹  seizes him by the heel; a snare ²  grips him.

For she leaves ¹  her eggs on the ground, and lets them be warmed on the soil.

Do you know how God commands them, ¹  how he makes lightning flash in his storm cloud? ² 

They will lay it waste. It will lie parched ¹  and empty before me. The whole land will be laid waste. But no one living in it will pay any heed. ² 

He piles up the water of the sea; ¹  he puts the oceans ²  in storehouses.

Every blow from his punishing cudgel, ¹  with which the Lord will beat them, ²  will be accompanied by music from the ³  tambourine and harp, and he will attack them with his weapons. ⁴ 

The revelation of the word of the Lord concerning Israel: The Lord – he who stretches out the heavens and lays the foundations of the earth, who forms the human spirit within a person ¹  – says,

He leans against his house but it does not hold up, ¹  he takes hold ²  of it but it does not stand.

the plague that comes in the darkness, or the disease that comes at noon. ¹ 

The one who hates others disguises ¹  it with his lips, but he stores up ²  deceit within him. ³ 

So it is with the one who stores up riches for himself, ¹  but is not rich toward God.”

No one has greater love than this – that one lays down his life ¹  for his friends.

You may say, ¹  ‘God stores up a man’s ²  punishment for his children!’ ³  Instead let him repay ⁴  the man himself ⁵  so that ⁶  he may know it!

The fear of people ¹  becomes ²  a snare, ³  but whoever trusts in the Lord will be set on high. ⁴ 

On the flinty rock man has set to work ¹  with his hand; he has overturned mountains at their bases. ² 

Every shrewd ¹  person acts with knowledge, but a fool displays ²  his folly.
