But he did not invite Nathan the prophet, Benaiah, the elite warriors, ¹  or his brother Solomon.

So go into the main streets and invite everyone you find to the wedding banquet.’

But when you host an elaborate meal, ¹  invite the poor, the crippled, ²  the lame, and ³  the blind. ⁴

When ¹  did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or naked and clothe you?

Be careful ¹  not to make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, for when ²  they prostitute themselves ³  to their gods and sacrifice to their gods, and someone invites you, ⁴  you will eat from his sacrifice;

“Go to the Rechabite community. ¹  Invite them to come into one of the side rooms ²  of the Lord’s temple and offer them some wine to drink.”

Go and learn what this saying means: ‘I want mercy and not sacrifice.’ ¹  For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house and do not give him any greeting, ¹ 

The one who loves a quarrel loves transgression; ¹  whoever builds his gate high seeks destruction. ² 

I have not come ¹  to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” ² 

He has sacrificed many cattle, steers, and sheep and has invited all the king’s sons, Abiathar the priest, and Joab, the commander of the army, but he has not invited your servant Solomon.

The people I call my own attack me like birds of prey or like hyenas. ¹  But other birds of prey are all around them. ²  Let all the nations gather together like wild beasts. Let them come and destroy these people I call my own. ³ 

Intermarry with us. ¹  Let us marry your daughters, and take our daughters as wives for yourselves. ²
