This is what I also observed about wisdom on earth, ¹  and it is a great burden ²  to me:

When the crowds heard this, they were amazed at his teaching.

But Jesus made no further reply, so that Pilate was amazed.

He is not enamored with the strength of a horse, nor is he impressed by the warrior’s strong legs. ¹ 

But he did not answer even one accusation, so that the governor was quite amazed.

Then all the people will hear and be afraid, and not be so presumptuous again.

and all who heard it were astonished ¹  at what the shepherds said.

And all who heard Jesus ¹  were astonished ²  at his understanding and his answers.

They ¹  were amazed ²  at his teaching, because he spoke ³  with authority. ⁴ 

When ¹  Jesus ²  saw their ³  faith he said, “Friend, ⁴  your sins are forgiven.” ⁵ 

The Lord says, “Do not start following pagan religious practices. ¹  Do not be in awe of signs that occur ²  in the sky even though the nations hold them in awe.

But from those who were influential ¹  (whatever they were makes no difference to me; God shows no favoritism between people ² ) – those influential leaders ³  added ⁴  nothing to my message. ⁵ 

The rest of the people will hear and become afraid to keep doing such evil among you.

Do not be afraid when a man becomes rich ¹  and his wealth multiplies! ² 

Do not be wise in your own estimation; ¹  fear the Lord and turn away from evil. ² 

“Watch out for false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are voracious wolves. ¹ 

All the crowds were amazed and said, “Could this one be the Son of David?”

When Jesus saw their ¹  faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” ² 

Then ¹  he said to her, “Because you said this, you may go. The demon has left your daughter.”

Then the Jewish leaders ¹  were astonished ²  and said, “How does this man know so much when he has never had formal instruction?” ³
