because ¹  you neglected ²  all my advice, and did not comply ³  with my rebuke,

The Lord confronted ¹  Manasseh and his people, but they paid no attention.

But they were indifferent and went away, one to his farm, another to his business.

but those ¹  who did not take ²  the word of the Lord seriously left their servants and their cattle ³  in the field.

as unknown, and yet well-known; as dying and yet – see! – we continue to live; as those who are scourged ¹  and yet not executed;

My zeal ¹  consumes ²  me, for my enemies forget your instructions. ³ 

He ¹  said to the woman, “Your faith ²  has saved you; ³  go in peace.”

Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

If someone does not recognize this, he is not recognized.

He said to his father and mother, “I have not seen him,” ¹  and he did not acknowledge his own brothers or know his own children, for they kept your word, and guarded your covenant.

“And now what are we able to say after this, our God? For we have forsaken your commandments

“If ¹  I cry out, ²  ‘Violence!’ ³  I receive no answer; ⁴  I cry for help, but there is no justice.

If I have refused to give the poor what they desired, ¹  or caused the eyes of the widow to fail,

for the needy are not permanently ignored, ¹  the hopes of the oppressed are not forever dashed. ² 

I am forgotten, like a dead man no one thinks about; ¹  I am regarded as worthless, like a broken jar. ² 

which cannot fill the reaper’s hand, or the lap of the one who gathers the grain!

However, ¹  because ²  I called but you refused to listen, ³  because ⁴  I stretched out my hand ⁵  but no one paid attention,

who leaves ¹  the husband ²  from her younger days, ³  and forgets her marriage covenant ⁴  made before God. ⁵ 

The one who shuts his ears ¹  to the cry ²  of the poor, he too will cry out and will not be answered. ³ 

But Jesus, paying no attention to what was said, told the synagogue ruler, “Do not be afraid; just believe.”
