Laziness brings on ¹  a deep sleep, ²  and the idle person ³  will go hungry. ⁴ 

But these words seemed like pure nonsense ¹  to them, and they did not believe them.

When it was about nine o’clock in the morning, ¹  he went out again and saw others standing around in the marketplace without work.

But Pharaoh replied, ¹  “You are slackers! Slackers! ²  That is why you are saying, ‘Let us go sacrifice to the Lord.’

And about five o’clock that afternoon ¹  he went out and found others standing around, and said to them, ‘Why are you standing here all day without work?’

And besides that, going around ¹  from house to house they learn to be lazy, ²  and they are not only lazy, but also gossips and busybodies, talking about things they should not. ³ 

They sing ¹  to the tune of ²  stringed instruments; ³  like David they invent ⁴  musical instruments.

For you know yourselves how you must imitate us, because we did not behave without discipline ¹  among you,

For there are many ¹  rebellious people, idle talkers, and deceivers, especially those with Jewish connections, ² 

I ¹  tell you that on the day of judgment, people will give an account for every worthless word they speak.

In all hard work ¹  there is profit, but merely talking about it ²  only brings ³  poverty. ⁴ 

Because of laziness the roof ¹  caves in, and because of idle hands ²  the house leaks.

But avoid profane chatter, ¹  because those occupied with it will stray further and further into ungodliness, ² 

And in their greed they will exploit you with deceptive words. Their ¹  condemnation pronounced long ago ²  is not sitting idly by; ³  their ⁴  destruction is not asleep.

But you must require ¹  of them the same quota of bricks that they were making before. ²  Do not reduce it, for they are slackers. ³  That is why they are crying, ‘Let us go sacrifice to our God.’

Will your idle talk ¹  reduce people to silence, ²  and will no one rebuke ³  you when you mock? ⁴ 

For we hear that some among you are living an undisciplined life, ¹  not doing their own work but meddling in the work of others. ² 

For this is no idle word for you – it is your life! By this word you will live a long time in the land you are about to cross the Jordan to possess.”

Sow your seed in the morning, and do not stop working ¹  until the evening; ²  for you do not know which activity ³  will succeed ⁴  – whether this one or that one, or whether both will prosper equally. ⁵ 

We have heard about Moab’s pride, their great arrogance, their boasting, pride, and excess. ¹  But their boastful claims are empty! ²
