¹ “Whoever strikes someone ²  so that he dies ³  must surely be put to death. ⁴ 

“If men fight, and one strikes his neighbor with a stone or with his fist and he does not die, but must remain in bed, ¹ 

“If a man strikes the eye of his male servant or his female servant so that he destroys it, ¹  he will let the servant ²  go free ³  as compensation for the eye.

One who beats an animal to death ¹  must make restitution for it, but ²  one who beats a person to death must be put to death.

“Whoever strikes ¹  his father or his mother must surely be put to death.

“‘If a man beats any person to death, ¹  he must be put to death.

If a scourge brings sudden death, ¹  he mocks ²  at the despair ³  of the innocent. ⁴ 

Does God listen to his cry when distress overtakes him?

For the Lord who rules over all says to me that for his own glory ¹  he has sent me to the nations that plundered you – for anyone who touches you touches the pupil ²  of his ³  eye.

“But if he strikes him suddenly, without enmity, or throws anything at him unintentionally,

Let him offer his cheek to the one who hits him; ¹  let him have his fill of insults.

So I do not run uncertainly or box like one who hits only air.

or with enmity he strikes him with his hand and he dies, the one who struck him must surely be put to death, for he is a murderer. The avenger of blood must kill the murderer when he meets him.

“If a man strikes his male servant or his female servant with a staff so that he or she ¹  dies as a result of the blow, ²  he will surely be punished. ³ 

“But if he hits someone with an iron tool so that he dies, ¹  he is a murderer. The murderer must surely be put to death.

To the person who strikes you on the cheek, ¹  offer the other as well, ²  and from the person who takes away your coat, ³  do not withhold your tunic ⁴  either. ⁵ 

Or if he strikes him with a wooden hand weapon so that he could die, and he dies, he is a murderer. The murderer must surely be put to death.

or with any stone large enough that a man could die, without seeing him, and throws it at him, and he dies, even though he was not his enemy nor sought his harm,

For you put up with ¹  it if someone makes slaves of you, if someone exploits you, if someone takes advantage of you, if someone behaves arrogantly ²  toward you, if someone strikes you in the face.

And if ¹  they do not believe even these two signs or listen to you, ²  then take ³  some water from the Nile and pour it out on the dry ground. The water you take out of the Nile will become blood on the dry ground.” ⁴
