He has besieged ¹  and surrounded ²  me with bitter hardship. ³ 

Take your share of suffering ¹  as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

for which I suffer hardship to the point of imprisonment ¹  as a criminal, but God’s message ²  is not imprisoned! ³ 

in hard work and toil, ¹  through many sleepless nights, in hunger and thirst, many times without food, in cold and without enough clothing. ² 

You, however, be self-controlled ¹  in all things, endure hardship, do an evangelist’s work, fulfill your ministry.

Joseph named the firstborn Manasseh, ¹  saying, ²  “Certainly ³  God has made me forget all my trouble and all my father’s house.”

“So now, our God – the great, powerful, and awesome God, who keeps covenant fidelity ¹  – do not regard as inconsequential ²  all the hardship that has befallen us – our kings, our leaders, our priests, our prophets, our ancestors, and all your people – from the days of the kings of Assyria until this very day!

You bring new witnesses ¹  against me, and increase your anger against me; relief troops ²  come against me.

Moses told his father-in-law all that the Lord had done to Pharaoh and to Egypt for Israel’s sake, and all the hardship ¹  that had come on them ²  along the way, and how ³  the Lord had delivered them.

¹ Moses ²  sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom: ³  “Thus says your brother Israel: ‘You know all the hardships we have experienced, ⁴ 

Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will trouble, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? ¹ 

You should not consider it difficult to let him go free, for he will have served you for six years, twice ¹  the time of a hired worker; the Lord your God will bless you in everything you do.

Distress and hardship confront ¹  me, yet I find delight in your commands.

For you recall, brothers and sisters, ¹  our toil and drudgery: By working night and day so as not to impose a burden on any of you, we preached to you the gospel of God.

But how can I alone bear up under the burden of your hardship and strife?

For evil does not come up from the dust, ¹  nor does trouble spring up from the ground,

You have made your people experience hard times; ¹  you have made us drink intoxicating wine. ² 

Not ¹  only this, but we also rejoice in sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance,

If we endure, we will also reign with him. ¹  If we deny ²  him, ³  he will also deny us.

Though you have allowed me to experience much trouble and distress, ¹  revive me once again! ²  Bring me up once again ³  from the depths of the earth!
