When they saw him walking on the water ¹  they thought he was a ghost. They ²  cried out,

When ¹  the disciples saw him walking on the water ²  they were terrified and said, “It’s a ghost!” and cried out with fear.

But they were startled and terrified, thinking ¹  they saw a ghost. ² 

Look at my hands and my feet; it’s me! ¹  Touch me and see; a ghost ²  does not have flesh and bones like you see I have.”

Look, your house is left to you desolate!

But Jesus cried out with a loud voice and breathed his last.

For ¹  there are three that testify, ² 

“Why did I not ²  die ³  at birth, ⁴  and why did I not expire as ⁵  I came out of the womb?

Your chosen ¹  cities have become a desert; Zion has become a desert, Jerusalem ²  is a desolate ruin.

You will fall; while lying on the ground ¹  you will speak; from the dust where you lie, your words will be heard. ²  Your voice will sound like a spirit speaking from the underworld; ³  from the dust you will chirp as if muttering an incantation. ⁴ 

But the eyes of the wicked fail, ¹  and escape ²  eludes them; their one hope ³  is to breathe their last.” ⁴ 

But man ¹  dies and is powerless; ²  he expires – and where is he? ³ 

So he caused them to die unsatisfied ¹  and filled with terror. ² 

Then Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and gave up his spirit.

I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

Then ¹  his father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied, ² 

These two ¹  went down and prayed for them so that they would receive the Holy Spirit.

Then Peter and John placed their hands on the Samaritans, ¹  and they received the Holy Spirit. ² 

And the disciples were filled with joy ¹  and with the Holy Spirit.

by purity, by knowledge, by patience, by benevolence, by the Holy Spirit, ¹  by genuine ²  love,
