For you are the one who gives and sustains life. ¹ 

You are a garden spring, ¹  a well ²  of fresh water ³  flowing down from Lebanon.

May your fountain be blessed, ¹  and may you rejoice ²  in your young wife ³  –

Instruction ¹  from the wise ²  is like ³  a life-giving fountain, ⁴  to turn ⁵  a person ⁶  from deadly snares. ⁷ 

The fear of the Lord ¹  is like ²  a life-giving fountain, ³  to turn ⁴  people ⁵  from deadly snares. ⁶ 

In your large assemblies praise God, the Lord, in the assemblies of Israel! ¹ 

The Lover to His Beloved: You are a locked garden, ¹  my sister, my bride; you are an enclosed spring, a sealed-up fountain.

“In that day there will be a fountain opened up for the dynasty ¹  of David and the people of Jerusalem ²  to cleanse them from sin and impurity. ³

Insight ¹  is like ²  a life-giving fountain ³  to the one who possesses it, but folly leads to the discipline of fools. ⁴ 

The words of a person’s mouth are like ¹  deep waters, ²  and ³  the fountain of wisdom ⁴  is like ⁵  a flowing brook. ⁶ 

The teaching ¹  of the righteous is a fountain of life, ²  but the speech ³  of the wicked conceals ⁴  violence. ⁵ 

Like a muddied ¹  spring and a polluted ²  well, so is a righteous person who gives way ³  before the wicked.

They went over the Fountain Gate and continued directly up the steps of the City of David on the ascent to the wall. They passed the house of David and continued on to the Water Gate toward the east.

A spring does not pour out fresh water and bitter water from the same opening, does it?

Israel lives in safety, the fountain of Jacob is quite secure, ¹  in a land of grain and new wine; indeed, its heavens ²  rain down dew. ³ 

“Do so because my people have committed a double wrong: they have rejected me, the fountain of life-giving water, ¹  and they have dug cisterns for themselves, cracked cisterns which cannot even hold water.”

You are the one in whom Israel may find hope. ¹  All who leave you will suffer shame. Those who turn away from you ²  will be consigned to the nether world. ³  For they have rejected you, the Lord, the fountain of life. ⁴ 

The Philistines assembled all their troops ¹  at Aphek, while Israel camped at the spring that is in Jezreel.
