Only his flesh has pain for himself, ¹  and he mourns for himself.” ² 

These double disasters confronted you. But who feels sorry for you? Destruction and devastation, famine and sword. But who consoles you? ¹ 

For, when I think ¹  about this, I am terrified ²  and my body feels a shudder. ³ 

He will take pity ¹  on the poor and needy; the lives of the needy he will save.

So let the one who thinks he is standing be careful that he does not fall.

I have sent ¹  him (who is my very heart) ²  back to you.

since he is a double-minded individual, ¹  unstable in all his ways.

God is a just judge; he is angry throughout the day. ¹ 

As a father has compassion on his children, ¹  so the Lord has compassion on his faithful followers. ² 

Watch ¹  yourselves! If ²  your brother ³  sins, rebuke him. If ⁴  he repents, forgive him.

My father may touch me! Then he’ll think I’m mocking him ¹  and I’ll bring a curse on myself instead of a blessing.”

“You must not oppress ¹  a foreigner, since you know the life ²  of a foreigner, for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt.

In the same way, your Father in heaven is not willing that one of these little ones be lost.

Jonathan said to David, “The Lord God of Israel is my witness. ¹  I will feel out my father about this time the day after tomorrow. If he is favorably inclined toward David, will I not then send word to you and let you know? ²

Just as a thief has to suffer dishonor when he is caught, so the people of Israel ¹  will suffer dishonor for what they have done. ²  So will their kings and officials, their priests and their prophets.

ג (Gimel) Judah ¹  has departed into exile under ²  affliction and harsh oppression. ³  She ⁴  lives among the nations; she has found no resting place. All who pursued her overtook her in ⁵  narrow straits. ⁶ 

If anyone thinks he is acting inappropriately toward his virgin, ¹  if she is past the bloom of youth ²  and it seems necessary, he should do what he wishes; he does not sin. Let them marry.

Now all discipline seems painful at the time, not joyful. ¹  But later it produces the fruit of peace and righteousness ²  for those trained by it.
