One of Joab’s soldiers who stood over Amasa said, “Whoever is for ¹  Joab and whoever is for David, follow Joab!”

“Glory ¹  to God in the highest, and on earth peace among people ²  with whom he is pleased!” ³ 

However, you must confess that you have done wrong, ¹  and that you have rebelled against the Lord your God. You must confess ²  that you have given yourself to ³  foreign gods under every green tree, and have not obeyed my commands,’ says the Lord.

to proclaim the year ¹  of the Lord’s favor.” ² 

And ¹  if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Even ²  sinners ³  do the same.

They willfully challenged God ¹  by asking for food to satisfy their appetite.

He says, ¹  “How long will you make unjust legal decisions and show favoritism to the wicked? ²  (Selah)

Two things ¹  I ask from you; ²  do not refuse me before I die:

She bestowed her sexual favors on them; all of them were the choicest young men of Assyria. She defiled herself with all whom she desired ¹  – with all their idols.

The Lord takes delight in his faithful followers, ¹  and in those who wait for his loyal love.

Many people entreat the favor ¹  of a generous person, ²  and everyone is the friend ³  of the person who gives gifts. ⁴ 

Then I will make you ¹  into a great nation, and I will bless you, ²  and I will make your name great, ³  so that you will exemplify divine blessing. ⁴ 

These people are grumblers and ¹  fault-finders who go ²  wherever their desires lead them, ³  and they give bombastic speeches, ⁴  enchanting folks ⁵  for their own gain. ⁶ 

So I will throw you out of this land into a land that neither you nor your ancestors have ever known. There you must worship other gods day and night, for I will show you no mercy.’”

“‘But you trusted in your beauty and capitalized on your fame by becoming a prostitute. You offered your sexual favors to every man who passed by so that your beauty ¹  became his.

All prostitutes receive payment, ¹  but instead you give gifts to every one of your lovers. You bribe them to come to you from all around for your sexual favors!

You were different from other prostitutes ¹  because no one solicited you. When you gave payment and no payment was given to you, you became the opposite!

If I have found favor in the king’s sight and if the king is inclined ¹  to grant my request and perform my petition, let the king and Haman come tomorrow to the banquet that I will prepare for them. At that time ²  I will do as the king wishes. ³ 

Behind the door and doorpost you put your symbols. ¹  Indeed, ²  you depart from me ³  and go up and invite them into bed with you. ⁴  You purchase favors from them, ⁵  you love their bed, and gaze longingly ⁶  on their genitals. ⁷ 

You have wearied the Lord with your words. But you say, “How have we wearied him?” Because you say, “Everyone who does evil is good in the Lord’s opinion, ¹  and he delights in them,” or “Where is the God of justice?”
